Daniel Cohn-Bendit

Daniel Cohn-BenditWhy he is cool:  On 7 June 2009, the European Parliament elections saw Cohn-Bendit and his Europe Écologie party secure a major breakthrough in France. The 2009 European elections marked the first serious success of the European Greens. The results have shown that climate change is now on the agenda of most European electors..

Cool facts:  Cohn-Bendit has been involved in politics in France and Germany and at a European level. He quickly emerged as a public face of the student protests when studying in Paris in 1968.

In 1984 he joined the German Green Party and ten years later he was elected to the European parliament as a German MEP. In 1999 he re-entered French politics as the leader of the French Green Party list in the elections to the European Parliament. Since January 2002 he is co-president of the Greens/Free European Alliance Group in the European Parliament.
